The integration of Ripple's technological suite, including its stablecoin, treasury management software, and lending services, into Robinhood signals a deepening collaboration across institutional and retail finance channels.

Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin became operational on both Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp on Tuesday, with plans for its inclusion in the primary Robinhood application later this year, according to an announcement from Ripple. RLUSD functions as a stablecoin, a digital token engineered to maintain a fixed value pegged to one U.S. dollar, thereby enabling fund transfers across a blockchain without reliance on traditional banking schedules. This token was introduced in December 2024, and Ripple reported that its current market capitalization has surpassed $2.5 billion.

Furthermore, Robinhood intends to utilize Ripple Treasury to manage its worldwide cash functions, a software solution designed to oversee a corporation's liquidity, encompassing everything from payment processing to forecasting cash flow and managing risk, including intercompany netting to minimize redundant payments between internal divisions.

Regarding institutional activity, Robinhood will employ RLUSD on the XRP Ledger—the underlying blockchain for XRP—specifically for finalizing large transactions within Bitstamp's institutional segment. Currently, Ripple Prime, a prime broker that facilitates lending and trade clearing for major financial entities such as hedge funds, already furnishes Bitstamp with margin financing and lending capabilities across approximately 20 different digital assets. Ripple acquired this firm for $1.25 billion in an agreement finalized in April 2025, when the entity was known as Hidden Road. Prime clients also gain access to spot trading on Bitstamp, allowing purchase at the prevailing market rate, and later this year, Prime is set to offer perpetual futures trading there, which involves contracts speculating on a digital asset's future price without an expiration date.

Robinhood, which currently serves 28.6 million customers with funded accounts, is integrating this digital dollar developed by Ripple, whose founders are also behind the XRP cryptocurrency.

Johann Kerbrat, the senior vice president and general manager of Robinhood Crypto and International, stated, “Utility is what moves stablecoins forward. Working with Ripple, Bitstamp and Robinhood will have access to RLUSD for institutional settlement, Ripple Treasury for our operations, and Ripple Prime for financing. ‘That is what a connected, global financial system looks like.’”

The partnership comes as Robinhood has made adjustments to its crypto offerings, having reduced its listings during the regulatory scrutiny imposed by the SEC on Ripple and other digital asset companies; however, the platform reintroduced XRP for its U.S. clientele in November 2024. Now, Ripple's software is slated to assist in operating Robinhood's internal treasury department. This move follows a period of financial tightening for the platform; in the first quarter, Robinhood saw its crypto transaction revenue decline by 34%, reaching $134 million, prompting the company to reduce its workforce by around 10% in June. The firm is scheduled to release its third-quarter performance data after the market closes on Tuesday, which will be the initial report covering a full quarter since the launch of Robinhood Chain on July 1.

These developments illustrate a significant trend wherein established financial intermediaries are increasingly adopting decentralized infrastructure and digital asset tooling, moving towards more integrated global operational frameworks.

Why it matters

This integration signals a deepening operational relationship between a major broker and a key crypto infrastructure provider. The adoption of Ripple's treasury and settlement tools suggests a move toward institutionalizing certain aspects of digital asset management. Regulators and exchanges will be watching how these corporate integrations affect market stability and compliance.
