DOJ Creates 'Super Intelligence' Task Force to Guard Against AI Abuse

Led by two senior DOJ officials, the Super Intelligence Task Force will target misuse by foreign governments, criminal groups and fraudsters—while pushing AI developers to tighten internal controls so their systems “behave as intended.”

The launch, announced on November 4-5, 2026, is part of a broader push. Several federal agencies are now building oversight around a technology Washington increasingly describes in near-sci-fi language.

Two senior DOJ officials will co-lead the unit. The task force is aimed at misuse of advanced AI, which the government is now calling "super intelligence," by a range of actors.

Those include foreign governments and transnational criminal organizations. Enforcement is only half the job.

The DOJ-SITF is also meant to encourage strong internal controls at corporations that deploy AI technologies. The unit will also serve as a link to the White House's Super Intelligence Force, or SIF.

That body is chaired by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. Its vice chairs come from the FTC, the Pentagon and OPM.

The SIF is already on a clock. It has a 120-day timeline, starting in mid-October 2026, to produce a risk report covering a range of security concerns tied to super intelligence.
